On May 7th, Professor Dinggang Shen from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) visited SIBET.After a warm greeting by the staff of SIBET, he was nominated one of the oversea evaluation experts of CAS. 

At aaward ceremony chaired byWu Xiaodong, vice president of SIBET, President Tang Yuguo distributed the honorary certificate to Prof. Shen.Both parties have a passionate discussion and express their prospects for future cooperation.The potential areas of cooperation include medical imaging ,medical fine mechanics and related softwares. 

After the ceremony, Prof. Shen gave alecture on “Deep Learning in Medical Image Analysis”He introduced significatively the deep learning algorithm in medical image processing, its specific content and current applications. Prof. Shen started with the basic theory and bore down on the importance of its application in medical image segmentation, registration, labeling and disease diagnosis.His observations gave rise to an animated and lively discussion. 

Prof. Shen is quite renowned in his research field for his fruitful research achievements in the world. His publications include about 400 academic articles in journals and proceedings of international conferences.The funds he got came from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and Hong Kong Research Grants Council mainly.He directs the Image Display, Enhancement, and Analysis (IDEA) Lab in the Department of Radiology, and medical image analysis core in the BRIC. His research group mainly engages in biomedical image algorithm and software development, and the achievement will be applied inimage display on brain, prostate, femur, pelvisand other parts of man or other animals. (Editor:Shi Lingling)
