On Oct. 12th, Prof.Philipp LANG and Dr. Xu Haifeng from University of Duesseldorf, Germany visited SIBET.

Prof. Tang Yuguo, director of our institute, hosted the meeting. He welcomed them warmly and gave them a detailed introduction of the history and current development of SIBET. Around 16 staff members from SIBET attend the meeting and communicate with one another. Afterwards, Prof.Lang visited Dept. Medical Diagnostics and Dept. Medical Optics discussed the purpose of further cooperation with researchers from SIBET.

Prof.Philipp A. Lang concluded medical school at the Universities of Tubingen and Zurich and Yale University. After his studies and his medical thesis about the suicidal erythrocyte death Dr. Lang worked with Nobel laureate Prof. Dr. Rolf Zinkernagel in Zurich as well as Prof. Dr. Pamela Ohsahi and Prof. Dr. Tak Mak in Toronto on immune functions during viral and bacterial infecions and graduated as a PhD of the University of Toronto at the Department of Immunology. From 2010-2014 Dr. Lang worked as a principal investigator at the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Infectious Diseases with Prof. Dr. Dieter Häussinger on the immune response during viral hepatitis. Since 2014 Dr. Lang is Full Professor (W3) and Director of the Department of Molecular Medicine II at the University of Dusseldorf. His research focuses on virus mediated liver inflammation, which may occur during disease such as infections with Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C Virus. Using murine models and basic research, Dr. Lang uncovers factors, which modulate immune mechanisms to prevent pathology, cancer and disease during virus infections. For his scientific work, Dr. Lang recieved the Award of the medical faculty of the University of Tubingen, the Du Bois Reymond award of the German Physiology Society as well as the Sofja Kovalevskaja Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which is one of the most valuable awards in Germany. Dr. Lang has published over 90 articles in internationally recognized journals some of which have highest impact (e.g.: Nature Medicine, Nature Immunology, Immunity, Science, Nature, Cell, J Exp Med, J Clin Invest, Proc Natl Acad Sci USA) and is part of 3 patents.
