More than 80 attendees from countries along the Belt and Road joined together for a seven-day online workshop from November 28 to December 7this month, to discuss the innovation and transformation of advanced medical devices.

Organized by the Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology (SIBET) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), the workshop attracted hundreds of attendees, from universities, research institutes and companies in Thailand, Iran, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and other countries.

Held both online and offline, the workshop invited not only experienced scientists from SIBET, top universities, and research institutes in China, but also famous professors from UK and USA.

“This training is to achieve ANSO’s Life and health theme, and will bring the benefits to countries along the Belt and Road.” said Professor CAO Jinghua, Executive Director of ANSO Secretariat.

The workshop series started from 2021, and cover three directions: Advanced in vitro diagnostic technology, medical imaging as well as physical therapy and rehabilitation.

The significance of holding the workshop series is in order to achieve the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations in the future, improve the life and health of people in the "the Belt and Road" area, improve public health and people's health, lay a solid foundation to build a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind.

Scientists shared their recent studies on Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Engineering Technology research in about 20 lectures, discussing topics including “Interventional Ultrasound Imaging and Therapy by Mini Size Transducers”, “Technology of Focused Ultrasound Therapy/Advanced technologies for Cancer diagnosis and treatments”, “Laser-induced Graphene (LIG)-driven Medical Sensors for Health Monitoring”, ”Applications and Principles of High Voltage Pulsed Electric Fields in Biomedical Engineering”, ”Environmentally Incorporated Wearables Enabled by Inverse Iontronic Sensing”.

“The workshop has promoted technology exchanges on research and commercialization of advanced medical devices with the Belt and Road countries.” said Professor GAO Jing from Jiangsu University

The workshop accelerated the development of medical instruments and diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, and strengthened international cooperation and exchange.

The workshop enhance the scientific technological training and education capacity of SIBET, enhance the technological research and transformation capacity of advanced medical instruments in countries along the "the Belt and Road". Said CUI Yaoyao, chief engineer of SIBET.
