More than 20 global scientists and experts visited Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIBET) on May 19, aiming to boost international collaboration with the institute on biomedical engineering research and technology.
The visit involved participants from research institutions including the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE), International Union of Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM), and Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Scientists shared their ideas and views on opportunities and challenges of world biomedical engineering.
“Industrialization is very important. It needs to be done step by step,” said Prof. Shankar KRISHNAN, past President of IFMBE.
Prof. Leandro PECCHIA, who focuses on design of medical devices, applications of Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) for Active and Healthy Ageing and for the management of chronic conditions, said that he is interested in rehabilitation engineering, and will come back again this year for “deeper communication”. He was the Secretary General of IFMBE.
The International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE) is a federation of national and transnational societies, representing interests in medical and biological engineering. It aims to encourage research and application of knowledge, and to disseminate information and promote collaboration within the field of medical, biological and clinical engineering.
The International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM) was founded in 1980 by its Constituent Organizations, the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering and the International Organization for Medical Physics. Through its adhering national societies in almost 80 countries and regions, the Union comprises a global network of physical scientists and engineers dedicated to improving health care and well-being worldwide, especially in developing countries.
The objectives of IUPESM are to contribute to the advancement of medical science and technology, to organize international cooperation and promote communication among those engaged in health care science and technology, to coordinate activities of mutual interest to the engineering and physical sciences within the health care field, and to represent the professional interests and views of engineers and physical scientists in the health care community.
