The Letter of Appointment and souvenir were conferred by Professor Yuguo Tang, the president of SIBET.
Before the ceremony, Prof. McVeigh gave a speech titled Biomedical Engineering: Past, Present and Future. Prof. Daxi Xiong introduced the academic background and research fields of Prof, McVeigh. Around 100 colleagues were present on the occasion and had active exchanges and communication with Prof. McVeigh after his speech.
Dr. McVeigh received B.S. of physics from University of Toronto 1984and Ph.D. of Medical Biophysics from University of Toronto in 1988. In 1991 Dr. McVeigh founded the Medical Imaging Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering as part of a Whitaker Development Award. Many novel MR imaging techniques were developed in the cardiac MRI research group during this period. These techniques form the foundation of the modern cardiac MRI exam. In 1999, Dr McVeigh joined the Laboratory of Cardiac Energetics at the NIH in Bethesda to develop a research program in cardiovascular interventional MRI.
