On September 15-18th, 2014, the Sino-German Symposium, sponsored by NSFC and DFG, on “Advanced Optical Imaging and Sensing in Life Science and Medicine" was held in the Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology (SIBET), Chinese Academy of Sciences.  

Prof. Hui Li from SIBET presided over the opening ceremony. Prof Xiaodong Wu, (vice president of SIBET) and Mr. Lesheng Chen (director of the Sino-German Center) gave keynote address of both SIBET and Sino-German Center. During the two-day meeting, more than 30 experts from Germany, the United States and China have done more than 30 reports.  

The two parties reached an agreement on collaborative research in the field of biomedical photonics. Both parties will formulate joint research projects to apply for joint projects funded by the Chinese and German governments on super-resolution microscopy, multi-modal imaging, ultra-sensitive optical fiber sensors, etc. Both parties mutually agreed that this symposium will provide a forum for researchers and engineers, particularly from Germany and China, to share the latest progresses of optical imaging and sensing in life science and bio-medicine, and explore opportunities for potential collaboration.
