Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIBET CAS), is pleased to announce its official journal, Biomedical Engineering (BME) Frontiers, which will be co-published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) as the third journal in its Science Partner Journal program.
BME Frontiers aims to serve as an effective platform for the multidisciplinary community of biomedical engineering. The journal will publish breakthrough research in the fields of pathogenic mechanism as well as disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and assessment. Articles will be based upon innovative fundamental and translational concepts, devices, systems, processes or methods.
The scope of BME Frontiers will include, but is not limited to, biomedical imaging and sensing; neuro-engineering for exploring and controlling the brain; biomaterials and tissue engineering; computational medicine; and translational biomedical engineering in special diseases.
Professor Jian-Lin Cao, Former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China will serve as the honorary-editor-in-chief. Professor Guo-Qi Zhang of Delft University of Technology, Professor Xing-De Li of Johns Hopkins University, and Professor Yu-Guo Tang of SIBET CAS, will serve as the co-editors-in-chief of BME Frontiers. Professor Xing-De Li of Johns Hopkins University will also serve as the journal’s executive editor-in-chief. Shou-Peng Liu from SIBET CAS will serve as the journal’s Chief Managing Editor.
The editorial office for BME Frontiers will open for submissions in March 2019, and the journal will be launched officially in September 2019, publishing original research papers, reviews, rapid communications and perspectives. Additional information about the journal will be released on the Science Partner Journal program homepage: www.sciencepartnerjournals.org.
Director Yu-Guo Tang of SIBET CAS, introduced SIBET briefly and emphasized that “SIBET is a unique national institute in biomedical engineering among the 104 institutes of CAS. We are longing for establishing a solid platform to promote communication among physicists, engineers, and clinical researchers at the very beginning.” “Today the long-expected opportunity finally approaches. We will dedicatedly cooperate with Science in launching Biomedical Engineering Frontiers. I am confident that the BME Frontiers will be a success and could advance biomedical engineering science.”
“For years, I have been looking for partners sharing the same vision of high-quality journal we have already established”, said Bill Moran, Publisher of the Science family of journals at AAAS. “Fortunately, we have found in China-SIBET CAS. I am impressed by their working efficiency and attitude. Especially, Professor Li as the editor-in-chief gives the journal so much support. These are very important for building a passionate team together between SIBET CAS and Science. We both believe that quality is the most important and we don’t want to judge journals just by the impact factor. That will make BME Frontiers the best publication possible.”
Additionally, as part of the Science Partner Journal program, SIBET CAS will be editorially independent and responsible for the content published in BME Frontiers and will provide professional editors committed to best practices in peer review and author service to oversee the publication process.
