Professor Cui Zhanfeng, Chair Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Oxford, gave a presentation on the 2nd talk at BMEF Keling top scientists forum on 25 March.
Organized by the Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology (SIBET) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the forum attracted 300 hundreds of attendees, from universities, research institutes and companies in China and England.
Professor Cui gave a lecture titled " Industrialization of biomedical engineering technology", introducing “How to build a successful biotech company” and two examples.
The first, is the successful engineering of the world's first tissue-engineered cornea. This breakthrough demonstrates the great value of the interdisciplinary team and talented people who achieved this innovative engineering achievement with the help of advanced technology and facilities.
The second, is the rapid development of COVID-19 rapid test kits in 2020. This example highlights the importance of the company's ability to utilize existing resource conditions, respond quickly to market demand, and have a clear route to the market, regulatory agency framework and logistics network.
Professor Cui also pointed out that in addition to the above factors, being able to seize market opportunities and launch products that meet market demand in a timely manner can often achieve twice the result with half the effort. And luck, although difficult to predict, can sometimes bring unexpected opportunities and success to the company.
At the forum, Prof. Cui Zhanfeng had an interactive Q&A session with the attendees.
After the forum, Prof. Wu Chengtie, Director of SIBET presented a certificate to Prof. Cui Zhanfeng.
In order to lead the scientific and technological development in the field of biomedical engineering and gather high-quality innovative resources, SIBET founded the international high-level academic journal "Biomedical Engineering Frontiers" in 2018 (Shorted as "BMEF").
SIBET focuses on the cutting-edge S&T in the field of biomedical engineering, strengthen the cross-integration of biomedical and engineering, to promote academic exchanges and cooperation.
The "BMEF Academic Forum" series started from Jan 2024, established by SIBET, including: "BMEF Keling Top Scientists Forum" and "BMEF Keling Academic Forum". Committed to creating an academic forum with international impact.
"Innovating biomedical engineering and serving people's life and health." SIBET will strive to build the "BMEF Academic Forum" into an internationally renowned academic forum, accelerate the construction of world-class institution, promote seizing the commanding heights of S&T, achieve the "four firsts" and the goals of "two accelerations and one effort" provide strong support.
Professor Cui Zhanfeng, Chair Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Oxford, Founding Dean of the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Oxford (Suzhou), Academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Academician of the British Academy of Medical Sciences. He is a global leader in the fields of biomedical engineering, biochemical engineering, and regenerative medicine. He has an outstanding reputation in the fields of stem cell and tissue engineering, bioseparation, bioengineering technology and processes, and in vitro diagnostics.
